Nursery Overview Print E-mail

We are so thrilled to be able to come alongside you as you train your children to be warriors for Christ! We pride ourselves in safety, fun, and biblical teaching of our littlest members of Antioch.
As you join us in this ministry, we encourage you to read the Bible to your children, and continue to familiarize them with the principles of His word through the week.
Part of the success of Antioch’s Nursery Ministry is directly because of the parents who have become involved and passionate about how the ministry operates. Many of these parents have become faithful leaders in the ministry. All parents agree to serve as a part of the Nursery in a co-op fashion in order to provide the needed support to properly care for all of our kids.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me, This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it , or any of the check-in captains, care patrol or coordinators if you have any concerns, questions, or ideas for making the Nursery more effective and efficient!
Children must be registered each year. You can download the registration form and fill it out ahead of time to expedite the process.

What to Bring:
When packing a diaper bag for your child, please include the following items:
-a diaper bag with two disposable diapers
-a plastic sack for soiled clothing
-a change of clothes
All items (including pacifiers and sippee cups) should be labeled with your child's name. Diaper bag tags are available upon request. check in.jpg

When You Arrive at Your Child’s Room
Check in starts 20 minutes prior to each service. Please stand behind the counter or gate while the Nursery Captain signs your child in or out. A Nursery Captain will greet you and receive your child and diaper bag. He/She will note any information that will help in caring for your child; such as feeding times, sleeping times, allergies and special needs. The Nursery Captain will also note your child’s length of stay (one or two services) and your location.
The Nursery Captain will apply an adhesive nametag to your child’s back with his/her name on it. You will be given a pager that has an identifying number on it. The pager will vibrate, so please hold or wear it at all times.
Children ages 11 months and older will have their hands cleaned with a non-water hand sanitizer. The sanitizer will be given in pea-sized amounts, administered by the parent, Nursery Captain or Nursery Helper, helping the child gently rub their hands until it has evaporated.
After you have completed the check-in process, simply wave a quick good-bye and leave for the worship service or your bible class. As you may know, it is normal for little ones to cry when a parent leaves. This usually does not last long and separation becomes easier over time. Our nursery helpers will create interest in a toy, book or activity and give assurance that you will return.

When You Pick Up Your Child
Please present the pager upon return to your child’s room. A child will not be released to a parent without the matching pager. Please make sure that all of your child’s personal items have been returned to you before you leave. Lost and found items are retained for a short time. Items not claimed may be donated to a local thrift store.
How long will my child be allowed to cry before I am contacted?
Crying children will be held, rocked, changed and fed. You will be contacted if crying continues for 10 minutes. You may give other instructions or make other arrangements with your Nursery Captain.

Nursery Pagers
Hand-help vibrating pagers are provided, one per child checked into the Nursery. The parent who accepts the pager is to wear it at all times when away from the child. If there is an emergency or any problem involving the child, the pager will vibrate and the parent will need to come to the room and address their child and/or the problem.
The pager’s radius only includes the church building facilities. Therefore, the parent with the pager should remain on the premises while his/her child is in the Nursery.

Why are there emergency drills in Nursery Ministry?
Because we are working with children, we believe strongly in being prepared for any emergency. There have been legitimate emergencies that necessitated the evacuation of Lake Washington High School, and due to the practiced skills of the Nursery staff we are able to evacuate each child quickly and without incident. Although drills do at times interrupt valuable teaching, we believe them to be critical to the ongoing safety of our children.

Will my child get sick from the presence of other sick children?
Antioch Nursery Ministry is a "well-baby" outreach. We do not and will not accept sick children. We do NOT take children who have:
-anything other than a clear runny nose
-have had a fever within the last 24 hours
-have a cough, diarrhea or any other possible symptom that indicates they are sick or contagious.
As an extra precaution, toys are regularly disinfected and cleaned.

What We Provide
Snacks are provided for our children age 11 months to 3. Children are served water and food items listed on the registration form. If your child has an allergy please inform the Nursery Captain when you check in your child.

Curriculum
We believe that even our littlest ones can learn! Regular learning experiences are planned and lessons are reinforced with songs, Bible sharing and supervised activities designed with the ability of the children in mind.
