JUDGES 6:25-26

God commanded Gideon to overcome his greatest fear.  God was calling Gideon (who was hiding in fear) to take his father's prized possessions (2 prized bulls), destroy the family false gods, build an altar to the Lord, and sacrifice the bulls to Him, the one true God.

God knew if He could get Gideon to face his personal, family fear, then facing Midian would be no problem.

For you it may be more frightening to confront your boss than to share your faith to a large crowd.

Some of us would be more afraid to lead our family devotions or even balance our checkbook than to preach in front of the entire church.

Our God knows our greatest fears, and wants us to destroy them with His help.  God may not ask us to do the great things, because we are afraid to confront the simple fears we have.

God calls Gideon to rip down the altar of Baal and cut down the Asherah poles.  (Baal was the demonic pagan god of fertility.  Worship included sexual perversion.)

The enemy often uses sexual perversion to destroy a culture, and to make Christian men weak and fearful.  Even today the LORD, our God, is calling his men to destroy the altars to Baal in our lives.  This may involve facing great fears.  And tearing down the "Baals and Asherahs" will always begin with us.

Just like Gideon we must face the fears in our lives, destroy all remnants of sin, and walk in complete obedience to God.
