JUDGES 6:27-40
What you fear the most can be your greatest strength if you will confront it.

v.28-31 - Gideon's father, whom Gideon feared the most (v.27), stood up for Gideon in the midst of threats and accusation.
  • Why did Gideon fear his father so much?
    •  Perhaps his dad was waiting for Gideon to stand up and act like a man.
    • Perhaps it was Gideon's obedience to God that caused his father to stand with him.
  • If we will stand for God and face our fears we will never be alone.  God will always stand with us and our obedience; and others may even follow.
  • The greatest reason we don't like to override our fears is because often there is great comfort in them.  Like Gideon, we find it is easy to hide in a winepress.
v.36 - "If you will..., as you have said..."
  • God has promised to save Israel, and Gideon replies in unbelief.  "If..."   Why does he do this?
  • Why do we take God's promise from His Word and then try to talk our way out of things we know God is commanding us to do?
  • Why do we fail to obey the things that are blatantly obvious in Scripture?
  • We will say, "Let me pray about it."  More often than not, all that is is use hiding behind God to keep from doing what we know He wants us to do.
  • It is time for God's men to stop hiding behind our religion, obey God, and simply do what He says.
  • Gideon lays out the fleece to test God after He has already promised to give the victory to Gideon.
  • The one who was probably most upset was the sheep who gave up the fleece to waste on Gideon's weakness and unbelief.
  • When we waiver in our obedience to God we affect others around us.
  • When we waver in our unbelief and procrastinate in our obedience, our obedience to God will decrease.  The more Gideon procrastinated the more he doubted God would come through as He had promised, and the more difficult it became for Him to obey.
Oh what a blessing is the grace of God that remains in spite of our unbelief.

Though God honored Gideon's unfaithfulness, let us not test the Lord.  Let us only obey.

In what ways do you try to "fleece God?"  Stop immediately, and obey Him.  We must be men who obey without question.
