A STUDY OF GIDEON: HOW TO BE A LEADER TO OVERCOME IMPOSSIBLE ODDS
3 THINGS THAT MUST HAPPEN TO BE AN OVERCOMER

1. You must overcome your greatest fear and make it your greatest asset (see below)

2. You must remove all little fears that fee your greatest fear.
    Judges 6:36-40 - Casting a Fleece

  • Once we overcome our greatest fear and make it our greatest asset, what about overcoming our mind and our negative thinking?
  • Gideon had a great lack of faith…rather he chose to not believe God when He had already promised Gideon the victory.
  • “Fleecing” God is not a process of faith. It is our negative thinking and our disbelief that God will come through on what He has already promised to do.
  • Gideon tested God (2 times). That was his negative thinking, his fear, and his lack of faith in God’s promise that was coming out.
  • God tests Gideon 2 times, to test his faith in Him and His promise.
3. You must allow God to place you in an impossible situation so He can prove He is a God who overcomes the impossible.
    Judges 7 – A Testing of Faith
  • To be a leader who overcomes impossible odds, you must first find yourself in an impossible situation.
  • You want to see God move greatly and do impossible things? Then you must stop living a safe life lead by your fears.
    • Too many men want to see God move greatly and are not willing to be put in tough situations where God must move or they fail.
    • Too many men want the comfort of God and don’t want to be placed in a tough spot where God’s strength can be proven.
You must allow God to place you in an impossible situation so He can prove He is a God who overcomes the impossible.

  • Two times God says to Gideon, “You have too many men.” God’s purpose in doing this is to stretch Gideon’s faith.
  • And also, God wanted to make sure that He alone got the credit for the victory. With a lot of men, it would have easy for Israel to be proud and boast of the victory in “their” efforts.
  • “The people with you are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hand, lest Israel boast over me, saying, ‘My own hand has saved me.”
