A.Y.M. Summer Campaign 2008According to many adults, it was at camp or a retreat where they made a decision to follow Christ or surrender their life to Christ. There is something significant in going into the wilderness to connect with God while disconnecting from everyday life. During a week long retreat we can get more done in a teen’s life than we can during one year of community programs. Why? Because a retreat setting allows for defenses to be dropped and hearts penetrated with the life changing message of Jesus Christ. For many teens this week away can be the best of their life. It is because of this that we hold several youth retreats and to make the retreats as affordable and cost effective as possible so that every student has the opportunity to attend. This year, we are organizing a campaign to raise $18,500. This money goes toward scholarships for all our retreats, to lower the overall cost for all students and to underwrite much of our transportation needs. This campaign is broken down into three components: Teen Sponsorships, a Work Day and Car Wash Tickets. All youth have been challenged to give of their abundance and their little. God will honor whatever amount they give. Together we can make sure anyone who wants to go will be able to. Sponsor a Teen Goal: 25 Full Scholarships Full Scholarship = $300 x 25 = $7,500 We are seeking individuals, families and/or businesses who would be interested in Sponsoring a Teen to help them go on their summer retreat. The summer retreats (Jr. High and Sr. High) cost $250 for a teen to attend. This cost includes: transportation, housing, meals, activities (whitewater rafting, rock climbing, and a day on the Columbia River), t-shirt and a chance to be impacted by Christ. In short we like to say: Sponsor a Teen – Save a Soul. You can sponsor for the full amount, team up with others or give any amount you feel led to donate. Work Days – May 24 & June 14 Goal: $7,000 We will be hosting 2 Group Work Days on May 24 & June 14. We will send out teams of students and leaders to perform the following services in designated neighborhoods: Car washing/detailing, deck staining/cleaning, weeding, bark spreading, window washing, thatching/raking, etc. If you have an interest in this or live in a neighborhood where you could line up several houses for us, then we can add you to our list. This is a donation based event so please consider carefully the amount you are able to donate for the work you will receive – it will be excellent work. Plan on 6-8 hours of work. 8 work sites per day. First come, first served. For every $10 car wash ticket we sell, $8.50 goes back to AYM. We require each teen to sell a minimum of 10 tickets. The money from these 10 tickets goes above and beyond what they have already paid. Students seeking scholarship assistance are asked to sell 20 tickets to offset their cost. Car Wash Tickets are redeemable at designated Brown Bear Car Wash locations.
